Features
Customers
Who you're billing โ the profile that ties payment methods, balances, and invoices together.
A Customer represents the person or business you're collecting money from. It's the anchor everything else attaches to: saved cards, bank accounts, balances, invoices, and charge history.
How it works
- Create a Customer, then retrieve or list them via the API.
- A Customer is scoped to one Application + Country and syncs with that country's payment provider behind the scenes.
- Once a Customer exists, you can attach payment methods to it, charge it directly, or bill it through invoices and subscriptions.
- Every Customer has its own balance and balance transaction history โ a running ledger of everything that's happened to their funds.
You don't need a Customer for every payment. One-off checkout or payment link flows can collect a payment without ever creating one โ create a Customer when you need to remember someone (saved cards, recurring billing, invoice history).
Common use cases
- A returning shopper whose card you want to save for next time.
- A subscriber who needs a monthly invoice and a payment history you can show them.
- Looking up "how much has this customer paid us, and what's their current balance?" in one place.
